Local Foods in the Valley Max Gibson and Jae Sanders from the San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition were recently featured on The Valley Pod. They talked about how strong the local food movement is here in the Valley—and why it matters. Local farms help feed families, support jobs, and keep our community healthy.
But there are some challenges too. With less money coming from grants, it’s harder to support food banks and local food programs. That’s why the Local Foods Coalition is starting a $2 million endowment campaign. This will help keep places like the Rio Grande Farm Park going strong for years to come.

Alimentos locales en el Valle Max Gibson y Jae Sanders del San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition participaron en el podcast The Valley Pod. Ellos hablaron de lo fuerte que es el movimiento de alimentos locales en nuestro Valle y por qué es importante. Las granjas locales ayudan a alimentar a las familias, a crear empleos y a mantener sana a la comunidad.
Pero también hay desafíos. Con menos dinero de las subvenciones, es más difícil apoyar a los bancos de alimentos y a los programas locales. Por eso, la Coalición de Alimentos Locales está iniciando una campaña de endowment de 2 millones de dólares. Esto ayudará a que lugares como el Rio Grande Farm Park sigan funcionando por muchos años.

Thank You, Volunteers! Join Us Again This Month The Rio Grande Farm Park team wants to extend their gratitude to the great group of folks who came out for last month's Volunteer Work Day. Thanks to you all, things are looking pristine! The PALS team and the Women's Club really helped to make it a special day.
This month's Volunteer Work Day is Saturday, May 31st from 9 AM to noon. Come on out to help fix up the strawberry patch, run some mowers & weed whackers, and help with some small building projects. We hope to see you there! |

Acompáñanos otra vez este mes El equipo del Rio Grande Farm Park quiere extender su agradecimiento al maravilloso grupo de personas que participaron en el Día de Voluntariado del mes pasado. ¡Gracias a ustedes, todo se ve impecable! El equipo de PALS y el Club de Mujeres realmente ayudaron a que fuera un día especial. El Día de Voluntariado de este mes será el sábado 31 de mayo, de 9 AM a 12 PM. Acompáñanos para ayudar a arreglar el área de las fresas, cortar el pasto, usar desbrozadoras, y apoyar con algunos proyectos pequeños de construcción. ¡Esperamos verte allí! |

Youth Explore Engineering—Human and Natural During a recent Fifth Day event, the Farm Park was alive with curiosity as students from the Boys and Girls Club joined us for a session centered on engineering and the natural world. The youth worked on engineering challenges in teams in the Education Center - designing, building, and testing their ideas while developing teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Afterward, we walked to the river as a group to learn about nature's engineers - beavers - who live just beyond the Farm Park. Although the beavers stayed hidden (we might've been a little too excited and loud), the outing sparked great conversations about how animals like beavers shape their environments with ingenuity not unlike our own. |

Jóvenes Exploran la Ingeniería—Humana y Natural Durante un reciente evento de Fifth Day, el Farm Park se llenó de curiosidad cuando estudiantes del Boys and Girls Club nos acompañaron para una sesión centrada en la ingeniería y el mundo natural. Los jóvenes trabajaron en equipos en el Centro Educativo enfrentando desafíos de ingeniería—diseñando, construyendo y probando sus ideas mientras desarrollaban habilidades de trabajo en equipo, comunicación y resolución de problemas.
Después, caminamos en grupo hacia el río para aprender sobre los ingenieros de la naturaleza: los castores, que viven justo más allá del Farm Park. Aunque los castores no se dejaron ver (¡quizás estábamos un poco demasiado emocionados y ruidosos!), la salida generó grandes conversaciones sobre cómo animales como los castores moldean su entorno con una creatividad muy parecida a la nuestra. |

Community Food & Ag Planning Is Underway We held first Community Action Planning session in Alamosa, and there will be more to come.
